Having said that, if you are living in an apartment or condominium where the unit will not be receiving much use, then it is ideal to utilize 1/2 horsepower garbage disposal. The most common unit that are used in single family houses are the ones that have a 1/3 horsepower output. Feed type – there are basically two different types you could go for namely the continuous feed and batch feed. When it comes to continuous feed, this is a very common unit found in kitchens. The continuous feed is operating when the switch is on and can be fed waste continually while it is running, hence the name. To operate the unit, you have to turn the water on and switch to garbage disposal and feed the waste down on the sink hole. Of course when you are done using it, simply turn off the unit and water.

In regards to batch feed models, they are almost the same to continuous feed models but they don’t have automatic switch for turning it on. Instead, they must be plugged into the drain and turned; when you are done, just unplug it.

Durability – majority of the complaints that people have with their garbage disposal unit is that, there’s leak. At times, it’s due to the reason that the unit wasn’t installed correctly or it’s because that something’s wrong with the pipes. On the other hand, there are times that the unit itself is causing the leakage. It is preferable to buy units that are made from stainless steel drums and stainless steel grinding chambers to ensure that it won’t be affected by rust.

Simply follow these 3 aforementioned points when planning to get a garbage disposal unit to make sure that you are making the right decision.
